Reach a milestone

A milestone is a goal with a date. tidystation weighs the work left against your hours and says whether you'll make it.

A milestone is a goal with a date and the tasks it takes to get there: a launch, an exam, a client handover. tidystation weighs the work left against the hours you have before the date and sums it up in one word.

How do I create a milestone?

Click New milestone on Milestones, or Add › Milestone on a project. Give it a name and a date; a project is optional. Typing #project or a date like next friday in the name fills them in.

Create and add tasks, or Enter, opens the milestone ready for its first tasks.

What do On track, Behind and Won't fit mean?

WordWhen
On trackThe work you haven't planned yet fits in the hours still free before the date, and nothing is planned after it.
BehindIt doesn't fit, but there are working days left to fix it.
Won't fitNo working days or free hours are left before the date, or a task is planned after it.
Not startedIt fits, and nothing is finished yet.
No tasksNothing is linked to it yet.
All doneEvery linked task is finished.
OverdueThe date has passed.

Hover a milestone on Milestones to read the numbers behind its word: the work left, the hours free before the date, and for Behind, what it needs a day.

A task with no estimate counts as no work. The word is only as honest as your estimates, so give each task one.

When a milestone is Behind, the fix is yours to choose: plan more of its work before the date, cut tasks, or move the date.

How do I add tasks to it?

Open the milestone. Add task creates a new one; Pull existing links tasks you already have. + Today puts one of its tasks on today, and the Triage button decides its unplanned tasks one at a time.

What happens when I ship it?

Click Ship. If tasks are still open, each one asks to be unlinked or marked done first. Finishing a milestone's last open task ships it on its own, and reopening a task brings the milestone back.

Shipped milestones move to the Shipped tab.

What does Archive do?

··· › Archive hides a milestone for good: it leaves Active and Shipped, and there's no way to bring it back yet. To keep a record of a finished goal, ship it instead.

Can I share a milestone's progress?

Yes. On an opened milestone, Share progress copies an image of its progress to your clipboard, ready to paste into X or LinkedIn. If your browser can't copy images, it downloads the file. Shipped milestones don't open, so share before you ship.
