Keep notes with a project

Every project has its own notes, with folders, a slash menu and a way to turn a line into a task.

Notes live with the project they belong to, so meeting notes, a fix list or a reading list sit next to the work they're about.

Where do notes live?

Open a project and choose Notes, next to List and Board. Notes in the sidebar shows every project's notes in one place: a Folders tree, the list of notes and the editor.

How do I create a note?

Press N on a project page, click New note, or use ⌘K › New note in and pick the project.

Can I put notes in folders?

Yes, one level deep: project, then folder, then note. Folders don't nest.

  • New folder: the ··· beside a project in the Folders tree.
  • Move a note: its ··· › Move to.
  • Delete a folder: its ··· › Delete folder. Its notes move back to the project.

How do I turn a line into a task?

Type /task on the line and choose Make task. The line becomes a checklist item, and a task with the same text appears in the note's project. Ticking either one finishes both, and the task shows which note it came from.

The task's title is the line as written, so #project or tomorrow isn't read here. Give it a day afterwards from the task itself.

What else is in the slash menu?

Type / in a note for headings, bold, italic, bulleted and numbered lists, a task list (/todo) and a divider.

A task list keeps a count of open and done items, with Hide done and Clear done.

Can I pin a note, or open two side by side?

A note's ··· menu has Pin, which keeps it above the others, and Open beside, which opens it next to the note you're reading.

How do I find a note?

Press ⌘K and type: the results include notes whose text matches, under Notes. Choosing one opens it in its project.
