Know whether the deadline still fits

A milestone is a goal with a date and the tasks it takes to get there. tidystation weighs the work left against the hours you can work before that date and sums it up in one word: on track, behind or won’t fit.

How to reach a milestone

How does tidystation know if I’ll make it?

From 3 numbers: the estimate on each task, the hours you can work each weekday, and the date. The work you haven’t planned yet has to fit in the hours still free before the date. When it doesn’t, the milestone says Behind and how much it needs a day.

What do the words mean?

WordWhen
On trackThe work left fits in the free hours before the date.
BehindIt doesn’t fit yet, and there are working days left to fix it.
Won’t fitNo free hours are left before the date, or a task is planned after it.
OverdueThe date has passed.

What do I do when it says Behind?

Plan more of its work before the date, cut tasks, or move the date. tidystation shows the gap; the call is yours.

Does a milestone need a project?

It can live in a project, like a product launch, or stand alone and collect tasks from any project, like a move to a new city.

What happens when the last task is done?

The milestone ships and moves to Shipped. Before that, Share progress copies an image of its progress, ready to post.

Questions

Can a task belong to 2 milestones?

A task belongs to one milestone at a time.

What if a task has no estimate?

It counts as no work, so the word is only as honest as your estimates. Estimate as you type: write the abstract 90m.
